Books in the Saint James Library are divided based on content, not reading level, so books in the Fiction and Young Adult Fiction sections may contain topics that may not be appropriate for younger minds to handle and understand. Here is an overview of our library sections.

Everybody Section (E) - picture books that range in reading level from K-8th grades

Junior Fiction (JF) - geared to K-5th grades

Fiction Section (F) – 4th-8th grades (content geared to middle-grade students)

Young Adult (YA) - only with parent permission (content geared to high school students think PG-13)

K – one book (Everybody Section Only)

1st – two books (Everybody and Nonfiction Sections)

2nd – two books (Everybody, Nonfiction,& Junior Fiction Sections)

3rd – two books (Everybody, Nonfiction,& Junior Fiction Sections and Fiction Section Titles/Series only with written Parent Permission)

4th thru 6th – three books (Everybody, Nonfiction, Junior Fiction, Fiction)

7th thru 8th – three books (Everybody, Nonfiction, Junior Fiction, Fiction and Young Adult Fiction only with written Parent Permission)

Book Bee Students (4th-8th grades) Can check out their regular books and in addition can check out an additional four book bee titles. No more than seven books total.

Third Grade (Starting Mid Year)- If there is a book or book series that a child would like to read from the Fiction section then a written note from a parent with the title or series on it must be handed to the librarian prior to check out. Third grade does not have access to all of the fiction section or library because of content.

Seventh thru Eighth Grades Only – If a student wishes to read books in the Young Adult Section then the student permission slip obtained from the librarian must be completed by a parent and returned to the librarian prior to check out. This permission slip is good for one school year only.
